Discortics vs Double Counter: Is Double Counter Safe?

You add a verification bot to protect your Discord server and give your moderators less work. Members losing access to an old account should not turn that into a queue of manual-verification tickets.

If you are comparing Discortics vs Double Counter, you can choose whether your server needs alt checks. Alt checks are on by default, use keyed matching hashes, and let any one linked account verify when it meets your server's admission rules. Turn them off to keep network screening without collecting browser fingerprints or storing new IP/device matching signals.

Here is what that means for you and your staff.

Hashed IP storage for verification

With alt checks on, Discortics processes a member's IP address and browser/device fingerprint signals, then stores keyed hashes for account matching. Both the IP address and fingerprint matching values are protected with HMAC-SHA-256. Raw IP addresses and raw browser observations are not stored in verification records. Moderator verification logs do not expose the matching hashes either.

For a server owner, that means account matching without retaining a readable IP history in the verification database.

In support-server screenshots supplied to Discortics, Double Counter owner Nathan (nathanl) states that IP addresses are not hashed because they are checked again as VPN databases change. He also says IP addresses and emails were copied during an intrusion.

Discortics screens new proofs against its current network lists before storing the matching hashes. It does not retain raw IP addresses in verification records to rerun those checks later.

One linked account in your server, without a permanent main account

Your community may have members who use one account for work and another for gaming. Someone may also need a replacement after losing access to Discord. Your verification rules should handle which account joins your server.

With alt checks on, Discortics can link accounts across participating servers, but admission checks apply to the server the member is entering. Verifying with one account elsewhere does not permanently make it the only account they can use in your community.

Any one linked account can verify here, provided the checks pass:

  • Another linked account must not already be present in your server.
  • A linked account must not have a current ban in your server.
  • Any applicable account-switch cooldown must have ended.

You get a one-account rule for your community without making every member keep the same Discord account everywhere.

Why Double Counter can leave your staff handling account recovery

Double Counter's alt-detection documentation describes permanent account associations and restrictions when the original verified account becomes inaccessible. Its support guidance says global detections can affect servers the member has never joined.

Imagine someone verified in another community, then lost their account to a hack or an MFA lockout. They join your server with a replacement and get blocked. They have never caused trouble in your community, but your staff now has a verification case to resolve.

Double Counter directs these members to the server's staff for /manverify. That grants access locally without changing the wider detection. Its support guidance also says manually verified members need staff help again if they leave and return.

For your team, that can mean reviewing the account, answering tickets, granting access, and repeating the process on rejoin. An account-recovery problem elsewhere becomes work for the moderators who trusted the bot to handle entry.

With Discortics, a replacement account can pass automatically once your server's presence, ban, cooldown, and verification checks are satisfied. There is no permanent main-account designation for your staff to work around.

Staff review when a case actually needs it

Shared networks and similar devices can produce incorrect matches. Discortics gives staff clear rejection reasons and server-only whitelist overrides to review those cases. With alt checks on, a whitelist does not bypass a current linked-account ban.

Prime and Custom add built-in appeals. Members can send a short explanation, and staff can approve or reject it from the verification log. Optional join DMs help members find the next step.

The aim is to keep routine account changes in the automatic flow and give moderators useful context when a decision needs their attention.

More than an alt-account check

Advanced Verification combines network screening with Cloudflare Turnstile and optional device-based alt checks. New proofs are screened against maintained VPN, Tor, datacenter ASN, and iCloud Private Relay lists. When required checks are unavailable, the member stays unverified with a retry or staff-review path.

Turn Alt checks off in Dashboard → Verification or Alt Checks in /verify settings to skip browser fingerprint collection and linked-account presence, ban, and cooldown checks. The member's own Discord ban still applies. No new IP/device matching signals are stored for that check, and members verify on each new server entry unless whitelisted.

It also sits alongside Discortics moderation, Auto Roles, Autopilot, and Anti-Nuke. Your team can manage entry checks and protection against destructive administrative activity through the same bot and dashboard.

Privacy your members can understand

Discortics uses linked-account observations for admission checks and does not offer a public or subscriber account-link search tool.

Members can access privacy controls through /privacy, ;privacy, and the signed-in dashboard. The deletion flow requires confirmation and shows progress. Deletion removes verification access and leaves a minimal verification restriction for three months.

Verification proofs are retained while an account belongs to a participating Advanced server with alt checks on, then for one year after its last participating membership ends. Disabling alt checks does not immediately delete existing proofs. Separate verification history without matching signals expires after at most 365 days. Our privacy policy and data rights page explain retention and deletion limits.
